Located at the heart of Kitchener, the downtown core offers a variety of iconic shops & restaurants that contribute to the vibrant community within. During the summer months the downtown is bustling with activity whether its the weekly farmers market or the frequent community events and festivals. The downtown core is home to many historic buildings; some of which dating back to the early 1900s which accent the local town charm whilst still maintaining a sense of modernity among the sleek high-rise builds making it an incredible and unique place to live.

Located at the heart of Kitchener, the downtown is easy accessible whether by transit, walking or by car.

Things to do

The vibrant downtown community offers events and festivals all year long. There is always something to do whether it's the weekly local farmers market, outdoor concerts, or gourmet food festivals. The downtown core is home to many iconic shops and restaurants that offer unique and diverse experiences. There are plenty of live music venues and theatres to choose from, including Centre In The Square, The Registry Theatre and Apollo Cinema. You can also check out the local art scene at galleries such as the I8W Gallery or the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery.

Restaurants

Downtown Kitchener offers a huge variety of unique and highly rated restaurants - too many to list here. Residents can enjoy a variety of cuisines including Italian, Japanese, Mexican, and more. Some great options are 271West for italian fare, Marks Carribean Kitchen, and Pupuseria Latinos for the incredible Pupusas. Some of my favourite cafes include the excellent Darlise cafe serving comfort food for breakfast and lunch, Show and Tell Coffee, and the ever popular Yeti Cafe. For those looking for a night out, some great options include AOK craft beer & arcade, The Grand Trunk Saloon, and Underground Flavour Group.

Groceries

Marché Leo's and Full Circle Grocery & Bulk are examples of some of the many popular high quality local grocery store options located in the downtown core. Other options include Pharmasave and Shoppers Drug Mart as well as a variety of convenience stores throughout. For fresh produce and meats, there is the renowned Kitchener Market which is open year round on Tuesday and Saturday mornings offering high quality local produce & meats. All of which are easily walk-able and if needed, offer nearby parking or transit options.

Amenities

The local Kitchener library is located near the core of the downtown and offers a variety of amenities including free WiFi, public computers, study rooms, bookable meeting spaces and more. The Kitchener Public Library is also home to the Archives of Ontario as well as several local archives including those from Wilfrid Laurier University.

Several local gyms in the area include the highly rated Lil's gym and Templ fitness, as well as a nearby LA fitness. For those looking to find activity outside, there are several parks in the area including Victoria Park which are all dog friendly. Dogtopia is another excellent option for those looking for a daycare or pet resort. The facility offers doggy daycare, overnight boarding and more.
