About

Located to the southern side of Kitchener alongside the Grand River, the Pioneer Park is a sought after neighborhood nearby a huge variety of things to do and offering an assortment of detached and townhouse style homes along with Conestoga student housing. It is close to several great amenities including CF Fairview Park Mall, Upper Canada Park, and has quick access to the 401 as well as several surrounding natural areas.

Things to do


Pioneer Park Neighbourhood is at the heart of several natural areas and trails perfect for casual and determined hikers alike including the epic Walter Bean Grand River Trail which runs alongside the Grand River for over 70kms. Following this you will have the opportunity to see the Waterloo Pioneer Memorial Tower across the river, as well as pass by the Homer Watson House & Gallery which offers a variety of creative exhibits celebrating the diversity of the area. Other smaller natural areas include Tilt's Bush and Brigadoon Park which are perfect for walking your dog.

The nearby Upper Canada Park is the second largest in Kitchener with over 18 hectares of space and offers an exciting childrens play area and large open fields. This is also the location of the Southwest Optimist Sportsfields & baseball diamonds. Those interested in joining should checkout their page here. The neighborhood offers two skateparks nearby - the popular Upper Canada Skatepark and the more exciting Doon Skatepark.

There is the Doon Pioneer Park Community Centre offering a splashpad during the summer, as well as the Pioneer Park Library which also has a toy borrowing program. Closeby is also the Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum which is the largest community museum in Ontario telling the story of the Waterloo Region and featuring exhibits from around the world. The second floor also includes a War Memorial recognizing the sacrifices and achievements of the men and women who have served in the cause of peace and freedom around the world.

Some of the neighborhood favourites near the area include the well established Edelweiss Tavern who have an excellent schnitzel dinner along with regular live music and events, and the Rabbid Fox with great pub style options. For pizza theres the well reviewed Rustic Slice Pizzeria & Gourmet Salads offering their signature stone-oven baked pizzas with some very unique options.

Groceries


Within a 5 minute drive you will have access to the Zehrs Pioneer park offering a Dollarama, Shoppers Drug Mart, and Zehrs. Slightly further north is an M&M meat shop and Tazaa Food Market offering Indian, Pakistani and Canadian groceries. The Sportsworld Crossing plaza, which is a 10-minute drive on the highway, offers a Costco, Dutchies Fresh Food Market, and many other food and retail options.

There are several great workout options nearby including The Sweat Box which is a family owned and award winning fitness studio for all ages and abilities. There is also the Doon Pioneer Park Community Centre where you can book 45 minutes of open gym time for up to 10 people. Nearby is an Orangetheory fitness in the Zehrs Pioneer Park plaza.

In the Sportsworld Crossing Plaza (which is a 10 minute drive on the highway) there is a Landmark Cinemas and Skyzone amusement centre offering indoor trampoline parks featuring freestyle bouncing, dodgeball, fitness programs & more.
